{"id":19569,"date":"2020-05-28T11:16:23","date_gmt":"2020-05-28T11:16:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/playright.be\/?p=19569"},"modified":"2020-05-28T11:16:24","modified_gmt":"2020-05-28T11:16:24","slug":"time-for-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/playright.be\/en\/time-for-action\/","title":{"rendered":"Time for action"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Since the end of March, many consultation meetings, hearings, think tanks and other similar gatherings have taken place to establish supportive pillars for the artistic sector, which is probably the sector most affected by the measures taken in the fight against Covid-19. Make way for action!<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is clear that the artistic sector must be supported,\nand that relevant and coherent support measures must be considered. Even more\nso because they must reflect the realities of a sector that, let&rsquo;s face it, was\nalready in difficulties even before the pandemic started. In the meantime, the\ndiscussions have been going on for more than two months (almost three), and\nit&rsquo;s about time that the announced and\/or promised measures are <strong>translated\ninto action!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And in terms of action, <strong>the collecting societies\nfor performers play a decisive role.<\/strong> PlayRight, created by and for\nperformers, was born out of the desire of musicians to assert their neighbouring\nrights. Consequently, they organized themselves and created a society that today\nmanages the rights of more than 16,000 actors and musicians. PlayRight&rsquo;s\nmission, however does not stop there: defending and improving the rights of\nartists is an integral part of our mission and, whenever the situation requires\nso, <strong>we also consider it our duty to take concrete action measures to support\nthe performers.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Starting with advanced distributions of rights. Since the quarantine measures were announced, PlayRight has carried out <strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"an advanced distribution of 6.7 million euros  (s&rsquo;ouvre dans un nouvel onglet)\" href=\"https:\/\/playright.be\/en\/music-2016-final-distribution-of-rights-mounts-up-to-6-7-million-e\/\" target=\"_blank\">an advanced distribution of 6.7 million euros <\/a><\/strong>of music rights. In addition, we are preparing another advanced distribution of <strong>3 million euros of audiovisual rights<\/strong>, and we will carry out an early first distribution of music rights collected in 2019 in July 2020. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another concrete measure taken was the creation of an<a href=\"https:\/\/playright.be\/en\/emergency-fund-performers\/\"> <\/a><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/playright.be\/en\/emergency-fund-performers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"emergency fund (s&rsquo;ouvre dans un nouvel onglet)\">emergency fund<\/a><\/strong> in April, which aims to support artists who are in dire need of it due to the coronavirus crisis. The hundreds of applications (more than 450 applications so far) testify to the need for such an initiative.
