It is a remuneration intended for the public use of the music repertoire of <strong>performing artists<\/strong> and <strong>music producers<\/strong>. In other words, when a recording is made public, the law provides that a remuneration must be paid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Known by <strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"the payers (s&rsquo;ouvre dans un nouvel onglet)\" href=\"\/en\/who-has-to-pay-the-equitable-remuneration\/\" target=\"_blank\">music users<\/a><\/strong>, this license is very often seen as another tax to pay. In fact, it is not a tax but a <strong>financial compensation<\/strong> for the use of music without having to ask the permission of the artists to broadcast it in a public place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why <em>equitable <\/em>remuneration ?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is called &ldquo;equitable\/fair&rdquo; because it is not imposed by rights holders but has been negotiated at length with users. Its basic principles were determined when the copyright law of June 30t<sup>h<\/sup> 1994 was adopted and the equitable remuneration was first collected in 1999.
