This summer, PlayRight was present at festivals, competitions and professional events across the country. Each time with the same aim: to be close to the performing artists, answer their questions and guide them through their (neighbouring) rights. A look back at some of this summer’s encounters.
Young talent, networking and exchanging ideas
At Gent Jazz, PlayRight supported the Gent Jazz Talent programme, a springboard competition for young artists. Prior to the event, there was a networking session for the sector, where artists and professionals could meet one another. We also contributed to a similar programme during Graines de Scène at the LaSemo Festival in Enghien.
At BoomTown in Ghent, young, emerging artists received practical guidance on their rights during an information session. Neighbouring rights were also covered as part of the Urban 360 training programme. Our chairman, Christian Martin, gave participants a detailed explanation of the rights associated with their artistic practice.
During Muziekmozaïek’s annual music workshop in Gooik, around thirty musicians took part in an interactive session on neighbouring rights.
At Les Francofolies de Spa, we organised a panel discussion on AI in collaboration with Sabam, featuring, amongst others, the Brussels-based musician Saule and the young talent Laura Pepe. We were also present at the Brussels Short Film Festival and the Brussels International Film Festival, with a panel discussion on casting trends, a networking drinks event and an awards ceremony.
At the Music Industry Compass, our director took part in the vodcast Where’s the money at? as well as a sofa session on the international collection and distribution of neighbouring rights. At the Rendez-Vous event organised by VIBE, we were guests on De Muziekgilde’s podcast. Each occasion provided an opportunity to share relevant facts and tips with anyone concerned with copyright and neighbouring rights for performing musicians.
PlayRight also supported a training programme run by Mediarte for actors and actresses: workshops, meetings and masterclasses to help them further develop their professional careers.
From Ghent to Spa and back to Brussels: everywhere we went, it became clear just how rich and varied the performing arts landscape is. Thank you to all the artists, partners and organisers for the warm welcome and the fascinating conversations.
