On Monday 16 June, PlayRight organised its annual General Assembly at the Beursschouwburg in Brussels. All shareholders were invited to attend, read the 2024 annual report, and vote for the new directors.
Four sessions were organised for this General Assembly: the Particular General Assembly for the Dramatic arts and Dance group; the Particular General Assembly for Music group; the Extraordinary General Assembly and the Ordinary General Assembly.
During the Particular General Assemblies, the members present had the opportunity to vote for the four directors. There were 4 mandates to fill this year: four-year terms in both languages for the Music group, as well as the Dramatic arts and Dance group.
During the subsequent Extraordinary General Assembly, the shareholders approved the amendments to the statutes. Afterwards, PlayRight’s management team presented their annual report and 2024 accounts during the Ordinary General Assembly. The Auditor also presented his report during this meeting, and the annual accounts were approved, together with the discharge of both the directors and the auditor.
Furthermore, the abolition of the 7.5% withholding tax reserve was approved.
The General Meeting ended with the renewal of the auditor’s mandate, as well as the formal confirmation of the appointed directors.
PlayRight collected €33.1 million in neighbouring rights in 2024, which marks an increase of 17,07% from the rights collected in 2023. These rights came from multiple sources: equitable remuneration for music; private copying; lending rights; cable retransmission rights; rights collected abroad; annual supplementary remuneration, and remuneration for teaching and scientific research.
In 2024, PlayRight distributed around €17.4 million to performing artists. That’s roughly 8% less than in 2023 (€18.9 million), a difference mainly explained by the timing and number of distributions. Still, the 2024 figure is 13% higher than that of 2022 (€15.5 million), when cable rights were not yet included in the distributions. Overall, the amount remains in line with the average of the past five years, which stands at €17.9 million
This year, there were four mandates available on our Board of Directors.
During the Particular General Assemblies, the mandates for the colleges were renewed for a period of four years:. Alain Van Goethem (NL) and Nicole Colchat (FR) will continue their roles within the Dramatic Arts & Dance college, as will Roland De Greef (FR) for the Music college.
In addition, the Board welcomes a new member representing the Dutch-speaking role within the Music college: Abdelhakim El Haouari. Abdelhakim, who had already put himself forward as a candidate last year, succeeded this time in convincing his fellow shareholders to entrust him with a seat on the Board.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the new members of the PlayRight Board of Directors, and we look forward to continuing our work with them in the future!
