Spot on – othe new legal status of the artist [06.20.2022]

20 June 2022 - 17:30

As a way of closing the General Assembly 2022, PlayRight invites artists and organisations from the sector to participate in a debate about the new legal status of the artist. Also the Minister of Economy and Labour, Pierre-Yves Dermagne, and the Minister of Health and Social Affairs, Frank Vandenbroucke, will be present.

It had been an issue on the table of the competent minister for several years. However, at the beginning of May, a new legal status of the artist was finally validated by the Council of Ministers.

What was not really a legal status but rather an adjustment of the existing rules of employees for workers from the artistic sector has undergone a profound reform. As such, many aspects of the texts raise questions and will be the subject of discussion within the sector in the months to come.

This is why PlayRight proposes to focus this debate, in the presence of the two ministers invited, on the following two major themes:

  • The accumulation of unemployment benefits with the collection of copyrights or neighbouring rights,
  • The remuneration for invisible work.

The debate will be led by Ministers Pierre-Yves Dermagne and Frank Vandenbroucke, who will go into discussion with Thibaut Delmotte (actor and co-president of the Union des Artistes) and Luc Gulinck (legal expert and member of the Board of De Muziekgilde). Eva Meyer (Legal Manager at Amplo) will moderate the debate with the active participation of people and organisations present in the audience.
