This was PlayRight’s 2026 Annual General Assembly!
On Monday 15 June, PlayRight’s annual Annual General Assembly took place at the Beursschouwburg in Brussels. The members gathered to discuss the 2025 annual report and to appoint new board members.
The meeting was divided into two sessions: Special General Meetings for the Drama & Dance group and the Music group, and the (ordinary) General Meeting.
Elections
During the Special General Meetings, the members present elected four new board members. Each college appointed one representative per language group, each for a four-year term.
Annual Report and Votes
During the General Meeting, the board presented the 2025 annual report and the auditor delivered their report. The 2025 financial statements were approved.
The members approved, almost unanimously, the reversal of the provision for withholding tax and voted unanimously in favour of the distribution of 50% of the 1% reserve rights. This was followed by a series of votes on the allocation of undistributed royalties. An additional distribution in 2027 was approved in each case for the supplementary remuneration, the Fair Remuneration (national) and the Fair Remuneration for non-musical works. The proposals concerning Private Copying and Lending Rights were also accepted.
Following an extensive discussion on whether PlayRight may henceforth pay royalties to a legal entity designated by the performing artist themselves, the members voted as follows: 48% in favour, 35% against and 17% abstentions. The proposal was thus approved.
Finally, the members approved the discharge of both the directors and the auditor, and the General Meeting formally confirmed the appointment of the directors who had previously been elected at the Extraordinary General Meetings.
Key figures for 2025
In 2025, PlayRight collected a total of 26.6 million euros in royalties, derived from the equitable remuneration for music, private copying, lending right, cable rights, foreign collections, the supplementary remuneration and the remuneration for education and scientific research.
Of this amount, 21.2 million euros was distributed amongst performing artists, an increase of 21.8% compared with 2024, when the figure stood at 17.4 million euros.
New and re-elected board members
This year, four board seats were up for re-election. Darya Gantura (NL) and Giovanni Guzzo (FR) will continue their work on the Drama & Dance Board, and Benjamin Schoos (FR) on the Music Board. The governing body also welcomes a new board member to represent the Dutch-speaking community on the Music Board: Joppe Vanwetswinkel.
Congratulations to all the (re)elected board members!
