REMINDER – Federal compensation: lump sum compensation of 150€

January 24 2022

PlayRight has received, on behalf of the performing artists, a compensation from the federal government for the loss of revenues from neighbouring rights in 2020 and 2021 due to the health measures. As we announced at the end of last year, PlayRight is now distributing this lump sum compensation for actors and musicians.

The regulations allow for a lump sum compensation of 150€ per artist and per reference year (2020 and 2021) for the following two scenarios:

  • if the production of an audiovisual work could not take place in 2020 and/or 2021;
  • if the release of an album has been postponed or cancelled in 2020 and/or 2021.

Who is eligible?

Artists having their tax residence in Belgium. Both PlayRight members and non-member artists are eligible.

How to benefit from this compensation?

If you have not yet done so, you can submit a request by sending an e-mail to rp@playright.be with the subject “federal compensation – article 8”, by Monday 31 January 2022 at the latest, accompanied by the necessary supporting documents.

Concert cancellations are not taken into account. The regulations allow for a lump sum compensation of 150€ if a recording or the release of an album or film has been postponed or cancelled in 2020 and/or 2021. If the concert is recorded, this must be for the purpose of a rebroadcast or the release of an album.

The request for this lump sum must be accompanied by the necessary supporting documents. Evidence can be, for instance, the contract with the producer, with the recording studio, the announcement of the release or the postponement of the release of the album or film and/or tv show (publication, e-mail exchanges, etc.)
