PlayRight has carried out the first distribution of music rights for the reference year 2022. The total sum received by our musicians and artists affiliated via a sister society abroad is 4.819.269,11€. In 2026, there will be a second and final distribution of rights generated by music recordings that were broadcast and/or exploited in Belgium in 2022.

HOW ARE THESE NEIGHBOURING RIGHTS GENERATED?

The remunerations of these rights stem from the equitable remuneration, private copying, the lending right and the remuneration for education and scientific research en the annual supplementary remuneration. These remunerations were collected as a compensation for music recordings that were broadcast and/or exploited Belgium in 2022.

FIRST/FINAL DISTRIBUTION: HOW DOES IT WORK?

PlayRight always realises the distribution of your rights in two phases. The deadline for the declaration of repertoires that could generate rights for the reference year 2022 is 31 December 2025.

HOW ARE MY RIGHTS CALCULATED?

For every distribution of your rights as a musician on the Belgian territory, PlayRight matches the declared repertoires with:

• The playlists of radio stations and the audience rates;

• The Ultratop sales lists.

WHICH RADIO STATIONS ARE INCLUDED IN PLAYRIGHT PLAYLISTS?

Once these remunerations have been collected, PlayRight links your declared repertoire with these playlists, which contain all recordings that will generate rights for a certain year. You can find these playlists via your online portal in the PlayRight menu and declare your performances based on the tracks you recognise. Learn more about the PlayList menu.

PlayRight charges operational fees before the calculation of the rights allocated to you, as well as deductions related to the sociocultural actions of PlayRight+. Learn more

WHAT IF I HAVE NOT DECLARED ANYTHING FOR 2022?

It’s not too late yet! This is only a first distribution. PlayRight always distributes rights in two stages: a first one that takes place now, in 2023, and a final distribution in 2026.
