This fifth edition of the festival which annually celebrates Mozart’s masterpieces will take place from June 20 to 27, 2021, at the Place des Martyrs and the Théâtre des Martyrs. The festival is supported by the non-profit association Amadeus & Co.
After Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni, Così fan tutte and Die Entführung aus dem Serail, we will present you the last work for the stage of our favorite composer. Mozart had almost finished Die Zauberflöte when he received a last-minute commission to set to music a frequently used libretto by Metastasio, La clemenza di Tito, for the coronation of Emperor Leopold II as King of Bohemia in Prague.
Titus, too, must face one crisis after another. The brutal rejection of his beloved fiancée by public opinion, a criminal plot to take his life and the throne, the ensuing betrayal from his closest friend. Will he be lenient or not? Will he choose his own “pursuit of happiness” or the welfare of the state? Come and see how Mozart, with his musical genius and his dramatic sense, turns this timeless dilemma into an opera masterpiece. More info here.
Amadeus & Co is a non-profit association that stages Mozart’s opera masterpieces to highlight young professional singers and the main sites of the heritage of the city of Brussels. The project is supported by PlayRight+ as part of its call for projects.
