First distribution of international rights: 1.2 million € for PlayRight members

February 25 2020

PlayRight carried out the first distribution of neighbouring rights for music and audiovisual recordings today. We distributed no less than 1.2 million euros amongst our affiliated artists!

Background information: what are international rights?

When you become a member-artist of PlayRight, you have the option to grant us a worldwide mandate, registered in your contract. Based on agreements with our sister societies abroad, we receive information on how your repertoire is used in over 40 countries. This allows us to collect the remunerations that you are entitled to.

Neighbouring rights coming from abroad are calculated according to the rules of the local collecting society. However, PlayRight does check the quality of their data in detail and handles the payment of all calculated rights once received.

What is this distribution based on?

A distribution of international rights is based on several reference years, for both music and/or audio-visual recordings. This current distribution of international rights contains the following territories and reference years:

In August 2020 we will perform a second international distribution. You can find the distribution calendar and information on this year’s deadlines on this page .
