Second distribution of international rights 2020: 590.000 € for PlayRight members

August 10 2020

For the second time this year, PlayRight has carried out a distribution of international rights. We distributed no less than 590.000 euros amongst our affiliated artists!

Background information: What are international rights?

When you become a member-artist of PlayRight, you have the option to grant us a worldwide mandate, registered in your contract. Based on agreements with our sister societies abroad, we then receive information on how your repertoire is used in over 40 countries. This allows us to collect the remunerations that you are entitled to.

Neighbouring rights coming from abroad are calculated according to the rules of the local collecting societies. However, PlayRight does check the quality of their data in detail and handles the payment of all calculated rights once received.

What is this distribution based on?

Every distribution of international rights is based on several reference years, both for music and/or audio-visual recordings. This current distribution of international rights contains the following territories and reference years:

As any collecting society abroad, PlayRight takes a 5% fee (operational costs) from the amount of international rights collected after 1 December 2016.

In February 2020 PlayRight already distributed 1.2 million euros of international neighbouring rights. This new distribution of rights brings the total amount of distributed rights from abroad to 1.790.000€ , a new record for PlayRight.

Definitely take a look at our distribution calendar of 2020 to check dates and deadlines of the next distributions!
