AUDIOVISUAL RIGHTS 2016: FINAL DISTRIBUTION OF 2.078.458 €

June 15 2022

The audiovisual rights for the reference year 2016 have been closed. After a first and an additional distribution, PlayRight has now carried out the final distribution of rights arising from audiovisual recordings broadcast and/or exploited in Belgium in 2016. The amount that we could distribute this time amongst our affiliated actors and actresses? 2.078.458 €!

A new distribution of audiovisual rights. PlayRight has just distributed 2.078.458 € of neighbouring rights, coming from audiovisual recordings that were broadcast and/or exploited in Belgium in 2016. This is a final distribution. Consequently, it is no longer possible to declare your repertoire for this reference year.

This last and final distribution follows a first distribution of 286,000€ that was paid out in 2019 and a second, additional distribution (new!) that was paid out in 2020.

As an artist (or representative of an artist), you now have six months to inform us of any doubts or questions you might have, or to file a complaint regarding this distribution.

The remunerations of these rights stem from the private copying and the lending right.

FIRST/FINAL DISTRIBUTION: HOW DOES IT WORK?

PlayRight always distributes your rights as an actor/actress always in two phases. For audiovisual 2016, the society already carried out the first distribution of neighbouring rights in 2019. For the first time in the history of PlayRight, this was followed by an additional distribution in 2020.

The deadline of the repertoires that could generate rights for the reference year 2016 was December 31, 2021.

This final distribution completes the distribution of neighbouring rights for this reference year. The total amount of audiovisual rights in Belgium for the reference 2016 is, near 2.400.000  €.

HOW ARE MY RIGHTS CALCULATED?

To calculate your rights for audiovisual performances, a global amount of rights is allocated to each audiovisual work that appears in the playlists.

This amount is determined based on:

  • the duration of the work,
  • the time of broadcast
  • and the market share of the channel.

The overall amount allocated to the work is then divided among the performers, according to their role in the recording.

For this distribution, the Board of Directors has established the list of TV channels that are taken into account in the calculation, as well as the minimum audience shares that each audiovisual programme must have. This is in accordance with our General Regulations. TV channels of which the programs are taken into account for this final distribution:

WHEN DOES THE NEXT DISTRIBUTION OF MY (AUDIOVISUAL) RIGHTS TAKE PLACE?
