The first distribution of 2022 is a distribution of neighbouring rights collected abroad. This distribution concerns both music and audiovisual recordings that were broadcast internationally. The amount that PlayRight has just distributed amongst its affiliated performers is € 1.183.042.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: WHERE DO THESE INTERNATIONAL RIGHTS COME FROM?
Any artist who becomes a member of PlayRight, has the option to grant us a worldwide mandate in his or her contract. Based on agreements with our sister societies abroad, we collect information on how the repertoire of our artists is used in over 40 countries. This allows us to collect the remunerations accordingly.
Neighbouring rights coming from abroad are calculated according to the rules of the local collecting society. PlayRight does check the quality of their data in detail and handles the payment of all calculated rights once received.
The total amount of international neighbouring rights that we distributed during this first distribution is 1.183.042 €.
WHAT IS THIS DISTRIBUTION BASED ON?
A distribution of international rights is based on several reference years, both for music and/or audio-visual recordings. This particular distribution of international rights contains the following territories and reference years:
As any collecting society abroad, PlayRight takes a 5% fee from the amount of international rights collected after 1 December 2016.
A second distribution of rights collected abroad will take place in August 2022.
Do not forget to check our distribution calendar 2022 to know when the next distributions of music and audiovisual rights will take place. The calendar also mentions the deadlines for the declaration of your recordings: https://playright.be/en/distribution-calendar/
